Call for Comments on Draft Law on Data Security_Deadline: COB, 11 August, 2026

AusCham Vietnam invites Members to provide comments on the Ministry of Public Security’s official Draft Law on Data Security (Luật An ninh Dữ liệu), which has been released for public consultation.

The Draft Law establishes a broad regulatory framework extending beyond personal data protection to cover data security, data governance and national digital resilience. Its six key policy pillars are:

  • Establishing and safeguarding national data sovereignty;

  • Introducing a risk-based approach to data security through data classification;

  • Strengthening governance over data storage and cross-border data transfers;

  • Enhancing security requirements for artificial intelligence systems and other emerging technologies;

  • Promoting the data economy, innovation and domestic digital capabilities; and

  • Developing the financial resources, skilled workforce and international cooperation required for a secure and resilient digital ecosystem.

Given the Draft Law’s wide scope, AusCham encourages Members to review the proposed provisions and consider their potential implications for their sectors and business operations.

Members wishing to access the Draft Law and submit comments or recommendations are invited to contact Ms Huong Tran, Head of Advocacy & Partnerships at AusCham Vietnam at advocacy@auschamvn.org. Feedback should be provided using the designated template, preferably in Vietnamese, by COB, 11 August 2026.

AusCham will consolidate members’ input for submission to the Vietnam Business Forum Secretariat as part of the foreign business community’s contribution to the consultation process.
