AusCham Participates in National Conference on Cybersecurity and Personal Data Protection Laws
Hanoi, 21 August 2026 – AusCham's representative, Ms Huong Tran, Head of Advocacy & Partnerships, participated in the National Conference on the Dissemination and Guidance of the Law on Cybersecurity and the Law on Personal Data Protection, held in Hanoi.
Organised by the Ministry of Public Security in collaboration with the National Cybersecurity Association, the Conference brought together representatives of central ministries and agencies, 11 embassies and diplomatic missions, international organisations, business associations, companies, research institutions and universities. More than 700 delegates attended the event.

The Conference provided government agencies and the domestic and foreign business communities with updates on the two laws and practical guidance on their implementation. Discussions also addressed the growing importance of cybersecurity and personal data protection as Vietnam accelerates its digital transformation.
The first session examined the new provisions, scope, policy principles and implementation requirements of the 2025 Law on Cybersecurity. Speakers also discussed the protection of information systems, compliance requirements for providers of cybersecurity products and services, and the role of businesses in preventing and combating online fraud.
The second session focused on the key requirements of the Law on Personal Data Protection and Decree No. 356/2025/ND-CP. Presentations explored practical compliance considerations, data security challenges arising from digital transformation and the protection of personal data in the development and application of artificial intelligence.
A panel discussion considered the compliance roadmap for businesses and the growing role of trust in personal data protection as a source of competitiveness in the digital economy.

Speaking at the Conference, Lieutenant General Le Xuan Minh, Director General of the Department of Cybersecurity and High-Tech Crime Prevention, described the two laws as an important step towards establishing a unified legal framework for cybersecurity and personal data protection. He emphasised that organisations and businesses must move beyond awareness of the new requirements to clearly understand their responsibilities and implement them effectively.
The Conference also marked the launch of a bilingual handbook on the Law on Cybersecurity and the Law on Personal Data Protection, providing organisations and businesses with an additional reference for understanding the new legal framework and addressing common implementation questions.
For Australian businesses operating in Vietnam, cybersecurity, responsible data governance and regulatory certainty are increasingly important to business continuity, customer confidence and participation in digitally connected supply chains.
AusCham welcomes continued guidance and dialogue between government authorities and the business community as the new framework is implemented. Clear requirements, practical guidance and consistent enforcement will be important in helping businesses strengthen compliance while supporting innovation, digital investment and trusted economic growth.
AusCham will continue to monitor relevant regulatory developments, engage with government stakeholders and keep Members informed of matters affecting their operations in Vietnam.
